What do you usually put in your garden salad? The go-to salad for me usually includes romaine or green leaf lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, green pepper, and sometimes red onion. But whenever I’m at a salad bar, I add all this other stuff, and my garden salad is suddenly amazingly non-boring! I need to keep the extras on hand to spice up my salad.
There are 12 add-ons that I don’t usually put on my salad, but that I love. These toppings include: red, yellow, and orange bell peppers; fresh mushrooms; peas; broccoli; radishes; beats; kidney beans; sunflower seeds; croutons; and sprouts.
Garden salads are a staple, so mix up your ingredients…don’t eat the same old boring salad all the time! This garden salad is so good topped with my homemade ranch dressing.
- 1 head romaine lettuce
- 2 tomatoes
- 2 cucumbers
- 1 carrot
- ½ red onion
- Wash the lettuce, break it into pieces, and dry in a salad spinner.
- Wash the tomatoes and slice into wedges when using large tomatoes or slice into halves when using cherry tomatoes.
- Wash the cucumbers, slice them once lengthwise, then slice them into half circles. Leave the peel on for more nutrients or peel them if the skin is too tough.
- Wash the carrots, cut the ends off on both sides, and grate them or cut into small slices. Leave the peel on for more nutrients.
- Cut the ends off the red onion on both ends. Peel the skin off the onion. Slice the onion into thin rings and then cut in half again to form half circles.
